Poppies, poppies and more poppies

You may remember that I refashioned a ladies skirt into a child's swing top many moons ago.

Well, my daughter has now outgrown the sheer poppiness of the top.  So I have reclaimed it yet again!

It's got such a unique pattern that I had to use it for something delicious.

So I made a bucket bag from it!

And because I like to know where the pocket is in a bag, I added a poppy pocket too.

With a black and white polka dot lining!  Why be the same as everyone else!

The strap was interfaced to make it a little stronger and I've even figured out how to finish off the bias binding at the top without a flurry of 'oh my goodness, it's not working' LOL.

You see, I just love what I do.

Oh I do love a unique bucket bag!

So I had enough fabric left over from the preloved rose-print skirt to make another bucket bag.

I do like to make unique items so this one has a pink polka dot handle and a fabric flower (magnetic snap) closure.  This handle is softly padded.

The reverse of the bag took another section of the skirt as its focus.

And the base and interior print was from a different black and pink rose-print fabric than before.

It is, as I speak, winging its way to its new owner who I hope has lots of fun with it!

A rose by any other name...

There's something quintessentially English about roses. 

So when I spotted a couple of skirts with rose-prints on I just had to add them to my collection.

I put the two prints together and added a green polka dot to make another bag - I really can't get enough of bags!

I chose the darker fabric to line it and for the base.  I added a pocket too for mobiles, pens, you name it!

It's funny, whenever I make something out of preloved fabric - I just want to keep it!

But I know it's going to a good home!

Bucket bag from a skirt and dress

I do love a good bucket bag - it's one of those designs that you can put anything into and it always looks good.

This is the last of the preloved skirt fabric that I have so there are now only two in existence. 

 I don't like making two things the same so I used different fabric for the base and inner of the bag.

The inside fabric was taken from a girl's polka dot dress.  As it had a pocket on the side of the dress I added that to the inside too.

Who says just because your pattern is one size that you have to keep it that size?

So I played around with resizing the pattern and made a half-sized bucket bag.  For little ladies. 

 

 

It's lined with red fleece which I have loved using in other projects.  It's amazing what you can do with an Ikea throw!

I've branched out into a whole new world of magnetic snaps too!

 

 

I even added a felt flower to the tab too.

 

This could easily have been made from a pair of jeans.  Hmmmm, maybe next time...

Bucket bag made from pre-loved skirt

While we were on holiday I found a gorgeous skirt in a charity shop.  I wasn't keen on the cut of it so I decided to turn it into a bucket bag instead!

It is lined with denim and has homemade bias binding straps and bottom.
